THE SEMAMPHORAS TABLE - Table of Practice (Summa Sacre Magice)

Individually carved from a single piece of solid oak. This example is a very tactile 15" x 15" (38cm x 38cm) 1 inch thick and one of the most complex and detailed carvings I make. I consulted several different examples and manuscripts, re-drew the table layout myself, keeping it all as true to the originals as possible...

A rather special piece for the serious practitioner of grimoire magic -- "The Semamphoras Table" is detailed within the colossal 14th Century compendium of magic, SUMMA SACRE MAGICE by Berengar Ganell. It's an encyclopedic compilation of Solomonic and Grimoire practice, importantly published two centuries prior to Cornelius Agrippa's De Occulta Philosophia.

It really is a beautiful and practically coherent design. "The great table of this art is called the "Table of the Four Sects", which is composed from the four alphabets, Greek, Hebrew, Latin, and Arabic." These "astral alphabets" frame the board for acts of "wonder-working". Ganell instructs that this board should be held when making petitions to God. Its use can be also seen in the Elucidation of Necromancy along with a prayer to consecrate it.

Working on this board, I have my own personal theories about the design, layout and use. I present it here as I think it could be an invaluable tool for experimentation for a practitioner of grimoire magic.

Carved in a single piece of European oak and finished with a dark oak wax to bring out the contrast in the carved areas whilst bringing out the richness of the oak grain.

Making this detailed carving is quite an intensive, time consuming job. Turnaround time on these is approximately 6 weeks. Once I’m happy with the final carving, I’ll send over work-in-progress photos as it nears completion. As this is a large, heavy piece I’ll ship it worldwide via courier. Thank you!
