SAINT CYPRIAN OF ANTIOCH - Carved Altar Ikon in solid walnut
A large sized altar ikon / altar plaque carved in solid walnut. 44.5 cm (17 1/2 inches) tall and 20cm (8 inches) wide with carved recess on the back for hanging fixture.
This carving design was conceived during the Feast Days of Saint Cyprian of Antioch this year, 2023. It was originally a personal illustration I did based upon 16th century woodcut design which I then transferred into walnut. Here, the martyr saint of sorcerers holds his black book and crozier with a skull at his feet, representing his place within both the divine and chthonic. "Saint Cyprian" in Greek is carved underneath between two crosses. A fitting ikon image for shrines and working altars as an offering to the magician's saint.
This walnut piece is finished with a dark wax inlay and then finely sanded and finished in a food-safe danish oil for a warm, subtle lustre.
Each piece is individually made to order and it'll take about 3-4 weeks to complete. I'll send a few work in progress photos as your carving nears completion. Shipping worldwide via tracked airmail service.
