THE BLACK STROPHOLOS - Carved Iynx Wheel in Solid Ebonished Walnut with matching handles

A new, dark version of my whirling Stropholos / Iynx wheel, as used in devotional and meditational rites to Hekate. This "special edition" version was initially a private commission I did, but the result turned out so nicely that I decided to make it more widely available. The design is based upon the examples shown by Jack Grayle in his wonderful Hekataeon. I redrew the design and he has kindly allowed me to add this to my catalogue of work after making a few private commissions of this design. (Thanks Jack!). I present two version of this theurgist's tool -- one with "Hekate" in traditional Greek text as shown in the photos, (ἙKATH - the capitalised form of Ἑκατη in the Greek alphabet), other rendered in English. I can also carve a double sided version, should you so wish.

The central disc is solid walnut, 10cm in diameter, which has been carved, ebonised and waxed. The matching ebonised black walnut handles are 12cm by 3 and are tactile in use. The disc is spun in one direction to coil the string and then pulled to spin the disc, which then coils in the other direction to create an (almost) perpetual motion and a handy tool in ritual work. This Stropholos is supplied with a macrame cotton which spins fantastically but you can alter accordingly. It's well worth experimenting with to find out what works best for you. * This ebonised black walnut version is a bit more expensive than the oak ones I make, as the ebony process takes an extra day or two to complete.
